Miguel
Bernardine Bianquetti, known as “Migueli" was born in Ceuta, December 19, 1951.He was nicknamed "Tarzan" and is one
of the most excellent players of in the history of Spanish football and of FC Barcelona. He started off his career playing
in Cadiz and then joined Barcelona where he played 15 consecutive seasons in the first team from 1973 to 1989 as their central
defender. Migueli is Barcelona’s most capped player, with 664 appearances and is considered one of the club’s
best ever central defenders. His personality and character revealed him to be a leader respected by his fellow players and
rivals. Throughout his 16 years in Barcelona, he won 12 titles with the club.
Recommended by Domènec Balmanya, Migueli, arrived at the club in the season of 1973-74 after Barcelona paid Cadiz
12 million pesetas. However, Migueli only played one game that season due to him carrying out his military service. That game
was the encounter against Zaragoza in November of 1973. The following season however, he began to establish himself in the
team. Migueli became a regular in the team for all the coaches with the exception of Udo Lattek, who incomprehensively left
him on the bench in the season of 1981-82.
He represented Spain 32 times between 1974 and 1980, playing in the 1978
World Cup in Argentina and the 1980 Euro Cup in Italy. His debut was against Scotland at Hampden Park in Glasgow on November
20, 1974. His final game was against Hungary in September 1980.
Migueli was a player with great pride; he played one final of the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1979 with a broken collar
bone. A brave, technical, relentless player and a leader who defended and attacked. A true legend.
After he retired, he became dedicated to art. He became an art merchant and has his own galary displaying other artists’
art work.
